Cathie Wood Wants to Bring Ark Invest's Funds On-Chain, Buys $80M BTC
Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood is looking to bring some of her company's funds on-chain.
Speaking at the Digital Asset Summit in New York , Wood revealed how Ark aims to focus on the tokenization sector.
“We think tokenization is going to be huge,” Wood said. “We’d love to be able to tokenize our Venture Fund (ARKVX) or our [Digital Asset] Revolution Fund.”
“I think the regulations are starting to open up in a way that will allow us to do that. So we'd like to seize the moment,” she added.
Although US regulators have not yet provided clear rules for registering security tokens, some industry experts believe the tokenization market could grow into a multi-trillion-dollar industry by 2030.
Wood also expressed strong support and trust for her firm's crypto investments, which she said were crucial to Ark's investment approach. Crypto has a long-term "investible arc" and “long-term innovation wins as we go through these trials and tribulations,” she said.
However, one sector of cryptocurrency Wood is less keen about is memecoins . Appearing on Bloomberg Television, Wood said, "There are millions of meme coins being created, and they are not going to be worth very much," emphasizing that her private funds are not investing in them.
Wood warned that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) does not intend to regulate memecoins, leaving the risk open to buyers. “If I have one message for those listening who are buying meme coins: buyer beware," she said.
"There’s nothing like losing money for people to learn, and they’ll learn that the SEC and regulators are not taking responsibility for these memecoins.”
She nonetheless has confidence in Bitcoin , which she believes will hit $1.5 million by 2030. According to Arkham Intelligence, Ark Invest acquired 997 BTC worth $80 million via Coinbase on March 13, 2025. The firm also recently purchased 64,358 shares of Coinbase, valued at approximately $11.53 million.
